The Walker School The Walker School Uses Blackbaud NetCommunity and The Raiser’s Edge to Engage Alumni and Increase Participation in Events and the Annual Fund
The Walker School is an independent co-educational day school in Marietta, Georgia. A kindergarten and elementary school in its early days, the School expanded to include a middle and upper school, with the first senior class graduating in 1981.
The Challenge: As its number of alumni grew, the School recognized the need to invest more heavily in the Internet, giving graduates an easy way to maintain a strong connection with life on campus and each other. It began searching for a technology solution that would enrich its newly redesigned website while reducing the costs associated with keeping up with a highly mobile alumni base.
The Solution: The Walker School implemented Blackbaud NetCommunity, Blackbaud’s website management solution. One of the reasons it chose Blackbaud NetCommunity was its ability to truly integrate with The Raiser’s Edge, a solution the School had already been using for fundraising and relationship management. This combination enabled the School to not only add online donation capabilities to its website, but also offer alumni access to online class notes, online directories, and event registration.
The Results: Participation in alumni events has increased since the addition of event registration to the School’s website. Alumni are now checking the site frequently for events. As well, alumni board participation has significantly increased. In the 2004-2005 school year, there was one annual meeting with only three attendees. Since Blackbaud NetCommunity was implemented, the School held bi-monthly meetings in 2005-2006 with an average attendance of 10 board members. As a result of increased communication among alumni, the School has seen an estimated 98 percent increase in its annual fund.
