Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity Uses The Raiser’s Edge® To Manage Volunteers and Better Solicit Support
Like many cities across the United States, the number of people in substandard housing in Dallas, Texas, is on the rise, creating a growing concern within the community and driving many local organizations to extend a helping hand. Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity — a Christian-based ministry that builds quality, affordable homes in partnership with low-income families and volunteers — is one organization that is striving to make a difference.
The Challenge: With plans for continued growth, staff members at Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity realized that the database they were using to store and access information about sponsors, volunteers and housing projects could not support the organization’s vision for the future.
The Solution: Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity turned to Blackbaud for help, deploying The Raiser's Edge to process massive amounts of volunteer and donor information, raise more money, and ultimately reach its goal of building 100 houses each year.
The Results: With the solution in place, the organization was able to better solicit and manage a large amount of donations, including gifts-in-kind, which helped increase the annual budget from $2 million to $7.6 million dollars in a little over four years. In addition to better managing its donors, Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity can also track its more than 20,000 volunteers. In 2003, the organization used The Raiser’s Edge to record more than 100,000 volunteer hours, data that was used to help secure a significant amount of grant money for the organization.
