Sacramento Zoo Sacramento Zoo Builds Its New Website with Blackbaud® NetCommunity™
Since 1927, the Sacramento Zoo has been working to inspire appreciation, understanding, and respect for all living things through stimulating education, wholesome recreation, and innovative species management. The Zoo is committed to creating a recreational and fun experience while providing educational messaging about animals and their wild habitats.
The Challenge: When it launched its website in 1997, the Sacramento Zoo accepted donations online by enabling supporters to fill out a web form that sent the information to the Zoo in an email. At the time, this was considered an industry-leading way to use the web. But staff members at the Sacramento Zoo had been manually processing online donations after they were received and began to wonder if new web developments would offer an easier solution. The Zoo had been successfully using The Raiser’s Edge® to manage its fundraising, so when the staff heard about Blackbaud’s website management solution, they thought it would be a good fit.
The Solution: Jaime Wilson, web developer and fundraising coordinator for the Sacramento Zoo, saw Blackbaud NetCommunity unveiled at Blackbaud’s 2005 Conference for Nonprofits in Charleston, South Carolina, and recalled, “Blackbaud NetCommunity opened up a whole new world of opportunity to us! We realized that Blackbaud NetCommunity could be what we needed."
The Results: The Zoo is currently in the process of redesigning the framework and basic pages of its website and is on target to release the site by January, 2008. Community sections targeting its top five constituent groups are planned to be completed shortly thereafter and will include the Zoo’s education programs by the end of 2008.
